App Store Limitations

A couple of interesting issues have come up in the last few days which have highlighted a couple of issues with the iPhone App Store. The first problem has been with TwitterFon which hit some issues with the data it was receiving through the twitter API. Annoying iPhone Feature (another one)

One of the small changes that came about from the latest iphone update is a repeating sound alert for when I receive a text message. Having a repeat reminder is something I can see as being useful in certain situations, when you’re somewhere busy and noisy for example. However, I often just have my phone out on a table, and when an SMS arrives, I just read it off the screen as it conveniently lights up. When the phone chirrups 5 minutes later, I think “oooh another message”, only to be terribly disappointed to find its the same bloody message all over again. Very tedious. Continue reading →

The world of Twitter

As regular readers will have observed, I have recently adopted the use of twitter, which is defined by wikipedia as a “free social networking and micro-blogging service”. Lots of buzzwords and the sound of my non tech friends running for hills screaming in fear that I am about to bore them with lots of words of no interest to them whatsoever. Wrong Day to Die

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have noticed that there has been a load of press about the LHC turning on today. It’s pretty exciting that we have such a large experiment going on, it’s a feat of extremely impressive engineering with some potentially fascinating consequences for physics. Experiencing Technical Difficulties

It seems that the spam module I have installed on this site is still preventing legitimate content. Temporarily, I have disabled the spam module so as to stop people having their posts eaten by the site, which must be very irritating (sorry Charles!)

Of course, if I wind up with a lot of spam, I will turn the comments off completely instead, but hopefully it won’t be that bad for the short period whilst I try and fix it (I figure I’ll be able to take a look tomorrow, I am going to try a fresh install of the module). Continue reading →
